Far out. Last week I had to put together a 12 page form for a client, which included no shortage of text and image styling. Oh, and I designed a cover for it, too.
This week - and it's Tuesday night here - I've so far spent about 6 hours on a logo concept for a client, 2 hours removing the background from a buttload of images (I swear, it's the mental equivalent to an office clerk's filing), and whipping together a bookmark (as in the oldschool bookmarks, not internet bookmarks) design for WebMenu.
The rest of the week is going to be taken up by further work on that logo (the client is proving to be fairly indecisive, damn!), and then some heavy duty stuff. Such as? Can't tell you! But it's huge, haha.
Ordinarily I'd complain that they don't pay me enough for this, but on the other hand I really need the experience. Life is tough when you don't have a university/college education! It's seriously 10 times harder to get a decent design position. I have no idea what the teenage and young adult version of me was thinking. If I could go back in time, I'd surely beat the shit out of him! SIGH.
Lorien and I stumbled across a rad little toy store a couple of months ago, on the way to her work. We finally got around to dropping in, and their prices are brilliant! So much cheaper than any other store I've been to. They sell anime toys and such, but also a great bunch of vintage Eastern and Western toys as well. Unfortunately, they're mega smalltime and I'm worried they might not succeed. They're not in an area that I'd consider particularly suited to their products, so I hope they can do well.
Anyway, I offered to design a logo for them, for free. They were ecstatic! Because of their location, I want the logo to be as outspoken and attention-grabbing as possible. Also, because they sell both Eastern and Western toys, I wanted to include both themes.
This is merely the first stage of the logo, I'm actually going to vector this and make it super crisp. Should be damn nice if the image I've got in my head is the one that ends up on the page!
Finished! Done! The poster was printed today, and presented to Hosie. I am told that despite his bewildered expression in the photo (hehe), he loved it. And I hope that's true, because I put a lot of work into this one! If anyone's curious: working at A2 size in Photoshop on a Pentium 4 with 1gb of RAM ain't as easy as you'd think! Ah well, enough with the whining. I'm glad to have this job wrapped up, and I'm glad everyone was happy!
Hosie, if you ever get around to visiting the website at the bottom of the poster (err, this website), best of luck at the police academy and I hope the poster gets pride of place in your living room!
Sweet! My cards arrived today. I put the order in for them on the 28th of December, knowing of course that there'd be a delay due to it being the holiday period and all. Even with that in mind though, they didn't arrive until today; the 15th of Jan! Ah well, they're here and they're great. Nice and petite size - 85mm x 45mm, 310gsm stock, matte coating front and back. I'm stoked, I say.
